I consider this relevant as this slide share presentation is very useful as it shows the key conventions to the film noir process and the key characters and there roles. It also includes information on the style quality and time periods and settings of the films. I have learned from the presentation the time setting the key concepts in detail and the major actors of that time for this genre. It helps inform my own production plans as with this i can set the urban setting correctly and gather information of that time and period and set my characters to the specific needs for the shoot.

a micro essay into genre conventions

A genre convention is a typical or standard  of plot, character, setting, icon, theme, or effect in a genre story. For instance, in a Western it is conventional to have the heroes wear white hats and the villains wear black hats Or in the superhero genre, it is a convention to have the characters wear costumes. The easiest way to spot a genre convention is to think about the trope being placed in another genre. For instance in a Western, a church is a sign of civilisations and the East; but in a romantic comedy, a church is a sign of reconciliation of the main characters, who usually get married.

Reading the essay what is film noir?

Film Noir is one of Hollywood’s only organic artistic movements. Beginning in the early 1940s, numerous screenplays inspired by hardboiled American crime fiction were brought to the screen.
Film Noir is a stereotypical detective story which can be moulded in to may different forms. Your typical Film Noir is a detective story in which he unravels the plot, the antogomnist in most cases is the femme fatal in most. It is the runnings of storytelling and has forever been criticised if its just an over developed story telling technique.

What is it?

Film noir was the flip side of life. Doomed heroes, manipulative people and hidden personal and political agendas were around every corner. The lighting used in film noir was very dark, creating long shadows and claustrophobic atmospheres that pervade the films. The characters in film noir of the 1940s always seemed to be set in dark, smoke filled rooms.

when is it? history of film noir

The term film noir, French for "black film", first applied to Hollywood films by French critic Nino Frank in 1946, was unknown to most American film industry professionals of the classic era. Cinema historians and critics defined the noir canon in retrospect. Before the notion was widely adopted in the 1970s, many of the classic film noirs were referred to as melodramas.

My strengths and fears about this unit
My strengths are my technical ability so practical is my strong point as i thrived on this part of the sbject last year and hope to do so in AS.
My fears are meeting the deadlines as i am a perfectionist and taking my time is within my nature.
